🎃 What’s in Season: Pumpkin 🎃
Pumpkins are the shining stars of autumn, known for their versatility, nutrition, and festive charm. Packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals, pumpkins aren’t just for carving - they’re incredible ingredients for a variety of dishes. Let’s explore three pumpkins Green experimented with, from kitchen successes to Halloween fun!
🧡 Butternut Squash
Why We Love It: A chubby, pale-yellow classic with sweet orange flesh.
Green’s tip: Cutting into a butternut squash feels like a workout - so chop it into chunks first and peel each section flat-side down!
Her favorite recipe? Creamy Butternut Squash Soup:
- Roast chunks of squash until tender.
- Blend with ginger for a spicy kick, butter for richness, and milk for creaminess.
- Season with sea salt and black pepper.
It’s a cozy, simple dish that’s always a hit during winter! Perfect for warming up on chilly evenings.
💚 Kabocha Squash
Why We Love It: Dense, nutty, and doesn’t need peeling - bonus!
Olive inspired Green to try her mom’s recipe: Stir-Fried Kabocha Squash with Salted Egg.
- Slice squash (it’s tough but worth it!).
- Fry in butter until golden and soft, then set aside.
- Stir-fry salted egg yolks until bubbly, add the whites, garlic, spring onions, sugar, and optional chilies for spice.
- Toss the squash back in, coat evenly, and enjoy the heavenly aroma and taste.
A unique, savory dish with bold flavors that left us wanting more!
🎨 Halloween Pumpkins
Why We Love It: The iconic orange gourds of spooky season!
Pumpkin carving is a fall tradition, and this year, we joined a local brewery’s “Pumpkin Carving & A Pint” event. It was a creative (and messy!) adventure—made even better by sipping beer while someone else cleaned up afterward. 😉
- Green went classic with a spooky face featuring jagged teeth.
- Olive got creative, carving “Boo” with heart-shaped eyes and a goofy grin.
By Halloween night, their masterpieces lit up beautifully with candles, adding a festive glow to the season.
