Charco Charco Yakiniku - A Wagyu & Sea Urchin Adventure in London 🍣🔥
Today, we took a trip to London to try Charco Charco Yakiniku, known for its "Wagyu Beef" and "Sea Urchin" - Olive's absolute favorites! As usual, London was buzzing with energy, and we were glad to have reserved a table in advance.
Once seated, we browsed the menu and ordered a Japanese A5 Wagyu Sukiyaki Set, a 5-Sashimi Platter, and the Truffle Seared A5 Wagyu, Uni, and Ikura Don. For drinks, Green went with a glass of white wine, while Olive opted for a pint of beer.
The A5 Wagyu Sukiyaki arrived first. Green had never tried Sukiyaki with raw egg, and it was a pleasant surprise! The rich flavor of A5 Wagyu melting in the mouth paired so well with the egg - a perfect start. The sashimi platter was beautifully presented, though we felt it could have benefitted from some ice underneath to keep everything cool and fresh.
Finally, Olive’s most anticipated dish arrived: the Truffle Seared A5 Wagyu, Uni, and Ikura Don. First impressions were great - it looked delicious, and Olive couldn’t wait to dig in. However, it didn’t quite live up to expectations. The wagyu was a bit chewy, and the sea urchin had a slightly bitter note rather than the usual sweetness. While the concept was promising, the dish felt a bit overpriced for what it delivered.
Overall, we enjoyed our meal but felt it would have been better if the sashimi was served first, followed by the hot dishes.
