Kiln Restaurant & The Almost Regent Street Motor Show
We were all set for an exciting Saturday at the Regent Street Motor Show! The train to London was packed, Paddington was bustling, and Olive looked stylish in her chic blue-and-white blazer and patterned tee - stunning! But as we reached Oxford Circus, something was off. No road closures, no vintage cars... Turns out, the show was canceled! Oh well - time for a new plan!
Our unexpected stop: Kiln, one of Olive’s must-try spots, with a vibe reminiscent of a Japanese Izakaya - rustic wood interiors, warm vintage lighting, and an open kitchen that brings you right into the action. Despite the wait of over 40 minutes, it was well worth it for the atmosphere and the incredible aromas from the kitchen!
Settling at the bar, we dove into a feast. Here’s what we ordered:
-
Aged Cull Yaw & Cumin Skewer
-
Slow Grilled Chicken & Soy
-
Three Pepper Jowl & Belly Curry
-
Clay Pot Baked Glass Noodles with Tamworth & Brown Crab Meat
Drinks were on point too - Olive went for a Pale Ale while Green enjoyed a crisp glass of white wine. Cheers to new plans! 🥂
The food arrived, and each dish was a pleasant surprise. The grilled chicken was smokey and slightly sweet, perfect with beer, as Olive happily noted. Then came the Jowl & Belly Curry, a dish that looked mild but delivered a fiery punch. Green warned Olive, “Careful, this is tricky!” as the spice tingled and brought back memories of Hunan’s heat.
A lovely touch we noticed: each wine bottle was tasted first by staff, adding a sense of care to every glass served. And Olive’s attempt to capture a video of the fresh beer was a fun moment - the bartender served her a pint so quickly, he joked, “This pint’s been waiting for you!”
All in all, our day took an unexpected turn, but it led to a fantastic meal and a memorable experience at Kiln.
