
Satay Beef Stew Recipe
Ingredients:

800g Beef Rib Joint, cut into chunks

500g Mooli (or Turnips), peeled and cut into thick pieces

1 Medium Onion, finely chopped

1 whole Garlic Bulb, peeled and minced
-
15-20g Unsalted Butter
-
2 Tablespoons Satay Sauce, 60g
-
1 Tablespoon Oyster Sauce, 30g
-
1 Tablespoon Soy Sauce, 30g
-
1 Teaspoon Sugar
-
4 Star Anise
-
4 Bay Leaves
-
Water, enough to cover ingredients

White Wine (or Cooking Wine), a splash

Black Pepper, to taste
Instructions:

Sear the Beef:

Heat the unsalted butter in a large pot over medium heat until melted.

Add the beef rib joint chunks and sear until the surface develops a golden-brown crust. Push the beef to one side of the pot.

Sauté Aromatics:

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the empty side of the pot.

Stir-fry until they turn golden and release their fragrance.

Add Seasonings:

Add the satay sauce, oyster sauce, soy sauce and sugar.

Pour in enough water to just cover all the ingredients.

Add star anise, bay leaves and a splash of white wine. Mix well.

Simmer the Stew:

Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce to low heat and simmer gently for 1 hour, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

Add Turnips:

Add the mooli pieces and continue simmering for an additional 30 minutes, until the mooli and beef are tender.

Season and Serve:

Before serving, season with black pepper to taste.

Serve the stew hot, paired with steamed rice or crusty bread.
Tips:

Stir occasionally to prevent the stew from sticking to the pot.

Ensure the liquid level remains just above the ingredients throughout cooking, add more water if necessary.
